Giving Respect
Showing Kindness
Hawaii’s 860 miles of breathtaking coastline symbolize more than just beauty—they represent the communities we serve, the challenges we confront, and the hope we bring to those in need. Project 860 Waikiki was founded on the principle that no one should be left behind, no matter their circumstances.
Our mission began over 30 years ago when Dr. Thomas W. Hawksley first provided aid to the homeless community in Waikiki. What started as a single act of kindness has now grown into a statewide movement, delivering food security, disaster relief, mentorship, and workforce training to thousands of individuals and families across Hawaii.
Project 860 Waikiki is not just an organization—it’s a community of people dedicated to making a difference. From volunteers and donors to partner organizations, we work together to provide life-changing support and opportunities to those facing hardship.
The number 860 in our name represents more than a numerical figure—it is a symbol of our mission’s reach. Hawaii’s 860 miles of coastline reflect our commitment to serve every shoreline, ensuring that every individual in need has access to support, hope, and the opportunity for a better future.
Just as the ocean’s waves touch every shore, so does our dedication to uplifting communities across Hawaii. The 860 miles symbolize resilience, community, and the unyielding spirit of Aloha that guides everything we do.
To empower Hawaii’s underserved communities through education, mentorship, food distribution, and disaster relief—fostering resilience, self-sufficiency, and the true spirit of Aloha.
A Hawaii where no one is left behind—where every individual, regardless of circumstance, has the support and resources they need to thrive, succeed, and contribute to their community.
At Project 860 Waikiki, we understand that real change happens within the community. That’s why we don’t just provide short-term aid—we work to create long-term, sustainable solutions that address the root causes of hardship and inequality.
✔️ Food Security – We distribute nutritious meals and essential supplies to ensure that families facing food insecurity never have to go hungry.

✔️ Workforce Training & Mentorship – We equip individuals with valuable skills, education, and career opportunities to help them break cycles of poverty.
✔️ Community Partnerships – We collaborate with local businesses, farms, faith organizations, and nonprofits to amplify our impact and create lasting change.
✔️ Expanding Statewide – With service locations in Waikiki, Kailua, and Kapolei, we are working to establish support centers across every Hawaiian island, ensuring that help is always within reach.
Over 30 years ago, Dr. Thomas W. Hawksley saw firsthand the struggles of Hawaii’s homeless population while vacationing in Waikiki. He began providing meals, resources, and support to those in need—one person at a time.
This grassroots effort grew into something greater. Recognizing the overwhelming need for food security, disaster relief, and economic opportunities, Dr. Hawksley expanded his work beyond Honolulu, establishing Project 860 Waikiki as a comprehensive nonprofit dedicated to serving all of Hawaii.
Together with his wife, Danielin Hawksley, and a network of dedicated volunteers, donors, and community leaders, he has built an organization that reflects the true spirit of Aloha—offering not just help, but hope and opportunity for a brighter future.
